Barbara Ann “Bobbie” Core passed away April 24, 2023 at Mesa Springs Healthcare Center in Abilene Texas. She was born on March 2, 1949 in Jacksonville, Texas. She had a love for learning and attended schools in the following cities: Ada, Oklahoma; Coleman, Texas; and Abilene, Texas. She graduated from Cooper High School in 1967. She attended McMurry College and graduated from East Central State College in 1973, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Master of Education. Barbara was an elementary teacher, who taught in Lubbock ISD from 1973- 1987 and Abilene ISD from 1987-2001. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, BSF, Presbyterian Women, and was an ordained elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include Carol Core Hedrick and her husband Ronald Hedrick of Lubbock, Texas; William Core and his wife Sara Core of Abilene, Texas; Catherine Core Puzan and her husband David Puzan of Apison, Tennessee; brother-in-law Ernest McLean and his wife Tammy McLean of Merkel, Texas. Barbara was proceeded in death by her parents William and Phyllis Core and sister Jacqueline Core McLean. She is survived by 17 nieces/nephews and 9 great nieces/nephews.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday, May 6 at 10am at Westminster Presbyterian Church officiated by Ernest McLean followed by a reception in the Youth and Family Building. Cremation will be private. In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Meals on Wheels or Bible Study Fellowship in Abilene, Texas. The family wishes to thank the staff of Hendrick’s Hospice Abilene and, most especially the Mesa Springs Healthcare Facility staff for their devoted care of Bobbie.
