Robert Carl Gardner... aka, Uncle Carl; aka Loyd Whatner; aka, RC....... a true friend from Mrs. Rucker's 3rd grade on- survived the great times (Lewisville, 1967; NOLA on many occasions) and the sad times... Carl was such a sweet guy when we were in church together in Abilene. From everything I have read, he stayed that way all his life. He was always ready with a smile and a laugh. He was nice to everyone, always. I know his death leaves a hole in the heart of all who loved him.
What a loyal friend! He always kept in touch when many times I could not. Carl's parents and my parents were friends through college and on. Others have memories of their times with Carl in their young adult lives. Mine are of our childhood. My thoughts of peace and love go out to Jill and her family. You are right, Craig. I want to be where the living is LARGE and Carl is holding court.
As Carl always called us on our Birthday to cheer us up, it is only fitting for us to spend a moment on Carl's birthday to thank God for making Carl part of our lives. Although Carl was a spontaneous type, excessive, do anything, over the top individual, he was always there for all of us. Even under the influence he could give good advice. I will miss him greatly, but will think of him often and know that all of us that were touched by Carl will all be with him at the Big Party again.
