David Walter Ratliff, Cooper High School class of 1967:
Born - July 3, 1949
Died - December 20, 1996
Interment - Elmwood Memorial Park, Abilene
Children - David Jr. and Tami
Wife - Bonnie J. (Fryer) Ratliff
David and I made all the Cougar Football games for many years. (And a few baseball and basketball games)
David was involved in and supported many organizations in Abilene such as Kiwanis, The Boys Ranch, baseball leaques, and numerous others. In addition he was very generous contributor to needy kids in AISD, and most of this was done anonymously. David did not like the spotlight.
He loved Bonnie and the kids, and was very proud of his two brothers, Charles and Arch.
Amazing thing about David, he could eat his weight in Chinese food, every day.
Hey John A. - nice words about our bud, David. Even though I have been gone for years, I heard about David's generosity to the kids in the Key City. I do remember the good times that we all shared at Jefferson - and Cooper. Here's to the good times, David!
Just found out....sorry to hear such. I had classes with David, we kidded the other as being Cousins...from Texas and Alabama Never forgot you David. See you later friend. (To the family I am truly sorry to hear this; was he sick, accident ? If I may ask)
David was a great guy. For those who didn't know, he was heavily involved in charity work. He was on the board of Abilene Boys and girls ranch and loaned his lake house out for the kids to use all the time. He was involved in youth sports, softball etc.
In 1986 or so, he called me and asked me to be administrator for abilene boys ranch---i had been the administrator for girls ranch. I couldn't because of other commitments but he was such a gentleman to give me the opportunity.
a funny story---on graduation night. I came home (about 1 am after playing in a band) and lying on my bed was David and sitting over him, like a protective hawk, was his future wife to be. Lets just say he was a little tired after an exciting night out. That was the first time i met his wife and she was a sweet and great person. David did a lot and will be missed.
Charles (Chuck) Ratliff
My little Brother!!!!!!!!!!!!!Bob Calhoun
All my memories of David are good memories. He was an easy guy to know and easy to like.
David was big hearted and willing to help anyone.
It would be interesting to hear David's opinion on the crazy economic times we are facing now.
We miss you David --rest well my friend.
