Obituary

Gregory Kent Wood, 74, passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Plano Heart Hospital, Plano, Texas.  Greg is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sharon Wood, of Frisco; a sister Marsha Bellerose, and niece Shahna Argyle and husband Brent, and their children Jensen, Tanner, McKinley, Reagan, and Brady.  He is also survived by niece Lindsey, husband Kyle, their children Grant and Hank;  Nephew Tyler and his wife, Amy and their child Brook . He was preceded in death by his parents, James Oliver Wood and Elsie Lorene Jones Wood.

Greg was born on September 22, 1948 in Amarillo, Texas.  His family moved around West Texas as his father was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.  He graduated from Cooper High School in Abilene, Texas and then enrolled in Texas Tech University in Lubbock.  Greg received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and was on the Dean’s Honor Roll at Texas Tech as well as a member of the Industrial Engineering Honor Society.  He was initiated into the Honorary Mathematics Society and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta.

Upon graduation from college, Greg remained in Lubbock and entered the Savings & Loan industry for a number of years.  He then went back to school and received his Masters of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from UT Southwestern Medical Center.  His strong entrepreneurial drive led him to C suite positions in a number of companies and he was also a business owner in the printing industry.

Greg loved people and loved sharing this time and talents in volunteer work.  He served on the Board of Directors of the Dallas Area Parkinsons Society; the Dallas All Sports Association, and the Rotary Club of Dallas Foundation.   Upon retirement, Greg was a volunteer at several professional golf tournaments in the area.  His hobbies included a passion for fishing, hunting, and golf.  He was a regular of the Stonebriar Men’s Breakfast group.   He had a pilot’s license; was a certified scuba diver, and had a captain’s license in boating.  He loved to travel and he and his wife traveled to Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, all over Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean and all over the United States.

Greg will be remembered as a strong Christian man who was a member of Christ Church of Plano.  He always had a smile on his face and a hand out to greet you.  He touched many lives through the years and will always be remembered for his contagious laugh and love of music, especially classical music.  He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Greg’s Memorial Service will be Wednesday, June 28,2023 at 1:30pm at Christ Church, 4550 Legacy Drive, Plano, Texas 75024. There will be a Reception to follow at the church.
