Cindy J Sullins Dees passed away on June 26, 2023, peacefully, surrounded by her loving husband Billy Dees after a short battle with cancer.

Cynthia (Cindy) June Sullins Dees, 73, was born in Oklahoma City, OK on August 13, 1949. She was the daughter of Warren H. Sullins and Margie Lee Paris Sullins who both preceded her in death. Cindy always said that she wanted to be a Texan, and she moved to Dallas with her family as fast as possible. She lived in Dallas for 9 years, and then her family relocated to Abilene, Texas where she graduated from Cooper High School in May of 1967. After high school graduation, Cindy attended Abilene Court Reporting School where she finished at the top of her class. She then moved to San Antonio where she began her court reporting career with Bexar County Court House. Cindy led a committed career as a court reporter for over 41 years, and she retired in 2015. Cindy married the love of her life, Billy Dees, on January 16, 1982. Cindy was a wonderful mother to her son, Chris Barfoot, and outstanding grandmother to her granddaughter, Christine Barfoot. After retirement, Cindy and Billy bounced from Mobile, Alabama, and Tampa, Florida, but finally settled in Magnolia, Texas near her family and best friends.

In addition to a successful court reporting career, Cindy volunteered with various organizations. She served in several different capacities with the San Antonio Rodeo, including the trail ride leading to the opening of the rodeo which was her favorite event. She volunteered for the San Antonio Sports Foundation where she was involved in the Olympic Festival and served on the committee for the Men and Women’s NCAA Final Four. Cindy’s talents also included serving as State Chairman for the Texas Junior Miss Program. Her dedication to the program then led her to serve as a Regional Coordinator for the National organization. Even after retirement, she continued with her passion for volunteering by serving as Vice President for The Timber Green Women’s Club. In her limited spare time, Cindy enjoyed spending time with friends, shopping for her granddaughter, reading, boating, traveling, and lobstering in the Keys with family.

Cindy is survived by Billy Dees, her Husband, son Chris Barfoot of San Antonio, and granddaughter Christine Barfoot of Austin. Her brother and Sister in law Scott & Pam Sullins of Fort Worth, and their two sons Stacy Sullins of Coppell, his son Hayden and daughter Jordyn of Fort Worth, Ryan Sullins, his wife Kerry Sullins, their son Isiah Brogan and daughter Josephine Sullins. Cindy will also be remembered by her close groups of friends who became her extended family.

For someone who was such a bright light to everyone she met, her family decided a Celebration of Life would be best served to honor such a fabulous, classy, intelligent, beautiful, and kind soul. Please join her family and friends in celebration as we commemorate Cindy.

The Celebration of Life will be held at Ruth's Chris Steak House (Concord location, Jones Maltsberger) in San Antonio, TX on August 12, 2023 from 4:00-6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Cindy.
