David was a very good friend and cousin.

David and his wife Dinah lived around the corner from Judy and I for many years. David's daughter Jana and my daughter Jena played tennis together at Lincoln.
Both girls being good tennis players we made the state tournaments and our families spent a lot of time traveling together. David's son Jason and my son Jamie were bicycle buddies. They roamed the neighborhood together.

David was irritated with Jason about something one summer day and told him to go get the hoe, go to the alley and cut the weeds down behind the fence. Jason responded "yes sir". A few short minutes later he came back to David and asked, Dad,,, what's a ho???

David and Dinah also owned a house in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. In the summer Dinah and the kids spent a lot of time there. They planned on eventually moving there.

David owned DLS Building Contractors in Abilene and spent a lot of time flying from job to job through out the state and then back and forth from Pagosa in his own plane.

On February 11, 1991 David and two other men were killed in his Cessna 206 as it crashed into the mountains around Yampa, Colorado. We were all devastated.

About a week before that David arrived at our house one evening to have dinner with Judy and I. I had to work a little late at the office and received a phone call from David. He said "dinner was very good and he was relaxing in my recliner watching my TV fixing to eat my lemon icebox pie for desert". (Probably watching "Blazzing Saddles") He suggested I need not hurry home.

A couple days prior to David's death he came by our house to check in and let us know he was headed to Colorado.
As usual Judy told David, please don't fly because the weather was not good. And as always he just laughed, gave her a big hug and headed to the airport.

David was a big guy with a big heart and a big part of our life. He has certainly been missed...
