I am still working in Richardson for BCBS and still enjoy my job enough to keep an apartment in Richardson and drive home to Granbury on weekends, or Richard comes here to stay w/ me sometimes. My mom is going to be 93 in Sept and is still going strong. We have to have a calendar to keep up with her comings and goings!! Loves to go w/ Senior Circle friends to go gambling once a month in OK!!
NEW UPDATE: 3/4/16; We now have eight(8) Grandjoys!! Newest one is Dalton Pope, born to my oldest son, Jimmie and his wife Andrea; they now have three kids!! I retired last October to come back home to Granbury and help care for my Mom, Pat Sims, now age 94 (will be 95 in Sept!). She gets along fairly well, but has some memory issues now, so I take care of most of her daily things, though at this time, she still lives alone here in Granbury. We have daily in-home care for her too, but she still gets out with me a lot. Doesn't drive any more though, so I cart her wherever she needs/wants to go!! Like being retired and Richard and I are trying to do some traveling when we have help caring for Mom. We just bought a new travel trailer and have made one trip in it, have 2 more short trips planned and then will take off June 8, 2016 and be gone the rest of June to Yellowstone and surrounding areas. Looking forward to this trip!!
Newest update: 3/29/17---We still have just the eight Grandjoys, ages 17 to age 2. Think we have our quota now, or at least that is what our kids tell us!! My Mom is now age 95, will be 96 in Sept 2017. She still lives alone at her home here in Granbury but has in-home care daily, but still fairly active. Her memory is dwindling, but still likes to be on the go. Richard and I have been able to do some travelling when we have help to care for Mom, and make lots of short weekend trips camping in our RV. Retirement is still very busy and active and I still care for my Mom daily and am able to get help in order to continue to travel some. We also enjoy attending sports events for our Grandjoys. Spent lots of time watching our oldest Grandjoy play Basketball for the Lipan Indians Varsity team who won State for their 1A Team in San Antonio this year. Our 2nd Grandjoy, Kennedy, plays soccer for the Varsity Lady Pirates in Granbury and just finished playing in the Bi-District soccer games. They lost, but played a good game. Kennedy, unfortunately got hurt when the Mansfield Goalie took her out as she went in for a goal, was tossed up in the air and landed on her forehead and face--a bad concussion that she is still getting over, but hoping to get back to driving and other fun things soon. Our younger Grandjoys are all in the Dallas area, but see them as often as possible to follow their sports, music, chess tournaments, and school events. They all keep our 4 kids and their spouses very busy! We are certainly enjoying a very Blessed and active life. Look forward to our 50th reunion end of April and hope to see lots of friends back there! Looking forward to staying with long time friends, Karen Clack Hall and Judy Clack Stitts for the reunion and also catching up with lots of others!!!
Well, my Mom got sick and was in the hospital several times this Spring 2017, and I had 2 mild strokes in April 2017 and then had a heart attack in June 2017, so I did not get to make our 50th Reunion as planned! Sure did miss that, but really enjoyed the pictures everyone posted so I felt like I at least got to keep up some. I am doing much better now, We had to move my Mom from living by herself in her home here in Granbury to a memory care place here in Granbury called Arbor House on June 15, 2017. She likes it now and they take excellent care of her. I still go up many times a week to see her and we just had a party there for her 96th Birthday on September 26, 2017. She has always been such a social person, and Arbor House has so many great things going on everyday that keep her busy and involved. She has made many new good friends there! Our oldest 2 Grandjoys, Brayden, age 18, (Jimmie's oldest child) and Kennedy, age 17 (Jennifer's oldest daughter) are both Seniors in High School and since they both live close to us, we get to see them in action with Basketball and Baseball for Brayden, and Soccer and Ag things for Kennedy. Our younger 6 Grandjoys are ages 3 to 9 and we try to see them as often as possible since they live in Dallas and Allen. We are very Blessed and count our Blessings everyday! Richard and I try to travel in our RV camping as often as possible, and plan to enjoy a 2 week trip driving to Las Vegas with some fun side trips going and coming home the 20th of October and returning the first week of November this year. We love our jaunts to Vegas and hope to keep winning money so we can go back as often as possible!!
2018 UPDATE: My Mom, Pat Sims, passed away on Dec 1, 2017, at age 96. We were very Blessed to have her with us for so many wonderful years. Richard and I went on a long RV adventure beginning June 15 and had planned on returning home on Nov 1st, 2018. Went up the West Coast and into Canada, but then Richard got sick and ended up in the hospital in Oregon toward the end of July. We were able to fly back home and had some amazing friends who flew to Oregon and picked up our travel trailer and truck and drove them back home for us. Discovered that Richard had Pancreatic Cancer which had already spread to his liver, lungs and brain. We got him home to Texas in time to see all 8 of our Grandjoys, all of our kids, and all of our brothers and sisters before Richard passed away a very short 10 days after his diagnosis on Aug 2, 2018. Life without Richard is very different and sad, but I continue to be Blessed with amazing friends and family who keep me up and going strong. |
